Once you’ve earned his loyalty, there is nothing a dragon won’t do for you

I’m crying at Hiccup’s face in that second gif because like he thought he was going to die. There’s this giant thing of ice coming at him and he has no time to run. Then a wave of black and it’s not quite as cold as Hiccup expected and for a second maybe he thinks that he’s dead, if his mind can catch up to the actual events that quickly. But no, something’s off about the situation and it’s warmer than he would think being covered in ice would be, and there’s a familiarity to his surroundings. Hiccup’s brain hasn’t caught up with what just happened because it’s recovering from the shock of expecting to die. Then the air starts to glow, and maybe it gets hot too, and 35 seconds after being covered in ice, everything explodes. Toothless uncurls from around Hiccup and roars at the alpha before turning to look at Hiccup, who’s watching him. Now Hiccup’s brain catches up with reality and although distracted by Toothless’s glow and wondering what just happened, Hiccup looks Toothless in the eye and understands that the dragon just saved his life, again, and some part of Hiccup that he didn’t realize was still broken is mended because he knows that Toothless would do risk his life to save him, and you can see the relief and gratitude on his face.

There’s a lovely old English myth that if someone who truely loved and trusted the werewolf called it by name that it would turn back to human.
Others include throwing their human clothes at it and it’d turn back but that’s a bit less romantic

#ok i understand ppl would take the romancey route here#but imagine the werewolf’s mother#or grandmother#some wizened old woman or middle aged woman#with wrinkles or hands toughened from years of labor#just going out into the woods#where even the men with axes won’t go anymore#and facing down the ravening beast#and saying#it’s time to come home

#in which kat bREAKS MY HEART
you’re welcome :P
